A Poem About A Tropical Thunderstorm

This blog was initially created to jot down little poems about life and nature, but it digressed to cards as I discovered the hobby of card making.  Today I wish to write a poem inspired by a tropical storm.

A Tropical Thunderstorm

The clouds build up
amidst the heat of the day.
The pressure changes,
the wind builds up,
the temperature drops.
The rain arrives.
Peter, patter, it starts.
Soon it is pouring.
The lightning strikes,
the thunder booms,
the rumble in the sky.
The wind slows down
into a breeze,
the rain turns into a drizzle.
All around it is wet,
the trees refreshed.
The rumbling in the sky remains,
the birds begin to chirp.
It becomes very quiet
but for the rumblings.
The earth is cleansed,
dirt and dust washed away,
the air is nice and cool.

Fastest Thank You Card Ever

It normally takes me a long while to figure out card challenges
but this one took me like less than 10 minutes,
thanks to two wonderful challenges
CAS(E) This Sketch CTS#17 (too late nonetheless) and Dynamic Duos DD#42

A very simple card to express
a simple message of thanks.

Oriental Touch to MOJO282

and I chose Square.

This card took a very long time to complete.
Why?  Finding the right mix of papers, mashing them around,
and finally rotating the sketch clockwise.
That was the answer ~ rotating the sketch.
Papers are from DCWV's Tradewinds Stack.
An oriental touch to the card.

I think this card came out suitable for Pals Paper Arts PPA153 as my 2nd entry.
Also submitted for The Paper Players Challenge PP134.

with space for a handwritten message
like Thanks or Love or Friends.

Freshly Made Birthday Card with colourQ

It's been a while since I was actively making cards
and now finding it hard to get back on track.
This card (2 versions) is made for 2 lovely challenges

The white base is slightly dimpled 220g paper.
The patterned paper is BoBunny's mounted on the cherry cobbler ticket
and for contrast in version 2, I placed the green border.
A simple birthday card for you.

It has been a busy start to 2013 and three weeks since my last card.
Everything is like a flurry of happenings
and we celebrated the Chinese New Year (today being the 10th day).

This simple card is made just for retro sketches rs#51

A lovely sketch indeed.
I turned it clockwise and came up with this.
Dragonfly and flowers by Spellbinders.

Nautical Happy Birthday Card

This card is inspired by two wonderful challenges
SK 163 US 194

While the inspiration photo is rather feminine, I took a masculine look
~ a nautical touch to the card ~
The fishbone paper is from DCWV Tradewinds Stack.
The Spellbinders die cut birds are from my stash cut out of a shoebox.
Used Sizzix Framelits Tickets for the frame.
Twine is Maya Road and grosgrain ribbon from my stash.
Piggyback for Unscripted is Happy Birthday sticker by Mrs Grossman's.
The initial card looked like a boat in the ocean but not quite it.
So I modified the look with the brown grosgrain ribbon and the birds
and the result is fantastic, me thinks!
So Happy Birthday to the Birthday Boy!!

St Valentine's Hugs and Kisses

This card is made with love for The Paper Players PP129 and Dynamic Duos DD#36.

I found my last card too red for Dynamic Duos
so I decided to have a second take on the colors using this lovely CAS sketch
which also fulfills the challenge by Sentimental Sundays 138 ~ Negative Space.
The white card is embossed with Sizzix Flowers Folder,
then cut and embossed with Sizzix Square die
(see the embossed square?)
The black square is cut into a frame and embossed as well.
Finally the white die cut is cut down to size to fit the black frame.
The butterflies are placed to look like they are flying into the frame.
XOXO sentiment from Hero Arts Everyday Messages completes the card.
Hugs and Kisses from me this St Valentine's Day.

CAS Valentine's Card

This card is made for Inkspirational Challenge #3 with colors from Dynamic Duos DD#36

The photo does not do this card justice.
The red came out not as red as the actual card.
I used Spellbinders Classic Heart and Butterfly on the red card
and used both the positive and negative of the card,
except for the largest heart,
and embossed the whole thing to get the frame.
With Love from me to you on St Valentine's Day.

Layered Birthday Card

Combined these two challenges for this card

This is one of the toughest card I have ever made, by choice of combination.
It took the longest time!!!
Perhaps because I found the orange too contrasting.
But in any case, it is done with a lot of trial and error.
Papers are a mixture of Echo Park and plain card stock.
Die cuts using Spellbinders and Sizzix.
It's a layered Birthday card!

Freshly Made for FMS68

This card is made for these two wonderful challenges

Love the colours but struggled a while in perfecting the card.
At first, I followed the sketch to a T.  It did not look right.
So I toyed with the same papers and took a different root.
I cut a window in the patterned paper with Sizzix Ticket die
and ran the outer paper with the die on Spellbinders Magnetic Spacer Plate
to make a fine embossed frame.
The flowers are made with Spellbinders Carnation Creation
and set in place with brads.
Look, no buttons!!
What a stunning card.

Thank You Mojo Monday and Stampin' Royalty

This card is made for two amazing challenges

The inspiration I got from the photo is its colors ~
orange, light blue, kraft, brown and white.
Used embossing folders from Sizzix on plain white and orange papers.
Patterned papers are DCWV Citrus stack.
The sentiment is a China stamp from my stash.
Two new items used are the checkered bias tape and button.
Thank you for all you have done for me.
